Mechanical Seal Repair - Grinding the Rotating and Stationary Ring End Faces

1. After removing the rotating ring, perform a rough grinding process, followed by fine grinding. Polishing is recommended if possible.

2. For rough grinding, use an abrasive with a grit of 80-160# to remove any machining marks. Then, use a grit of 160# or higher to achieve a finish that meets the design requirements. Carbide or ceramic rotating rings require polishing after fine grinding. A boron carbide polisher with a grit of M28-M5 is recommended. Polishing should achieve a mirror finish. Ceramic rings can be fine-ground with M5 agate powder and then polished with chromium oxide.

3. Graphite-filled PTFE stationary rings, as they are soft, can be fine-ground with kerosene, gasoline, or water without the addition of abrasives. They can also be polished during the run-in process, so high finish requirements are not required.

4. Grinding Method: If you have a grinder, you can use it. If you don't have one, you can use a figure-8 grinding technique on flat glass.

Mechanical Seal Repair - Shaft Sleeve Inspection

After removing the shaft sleeve for repair, inspect it for rust and wear. If the rust or wear is minor, polish it with fine sandpaper before reuse. If the rust or wear is severe, treat it and then electroplate it or replace the sleeve.

Mechanical Seal Repair - Sealing Ring

After a period of use, sealing rings generally lose their elasticity or age, and generally require replacement.

Mechanical Seal Repair - Spring

1. If the spring is not severely corroded and retains its original elasticity, it can be left unchanged. If the rust is severe or the elasticity has been significantly reduced, a new spring is required.

2. For mechanical seals with spliced housings, clean the housing and inspect the grooves for wear or deformation so that they can be calibrated, regrooved, or replaced.

3. After the mechanical seal is repaired, it is re-spliced and pressure tested after splicing before being put into normal use.
