Depending on the different media and working conditions, the materials used for mechanical seals are also different. The following are the commonly used material selections for different media and temperature conditions:

(1) For clean water and normal temperature environments, the dynamic ring can be made of 9Cr18 or 1Cr13 welded cobalt-chromium tungsten, while the static ring can be made of resin-impregnated graphite, bronze or phenolic plastic.

(2) In river water (containing sediment) and normal temperature conditions, the dynamic ring should be made of tungsten carbide, and the static ring should also be made of tungsten carbide.

(3) For seawater and normal temperature environments, the dynamic ring can be made of tungsten carbide, 1Cr13 welded cobalt-chromium tungsten or cast iron, while the static ring can be made of resin-impregnated graphite, tungsten carbide or metal ceramic.

(4) In hot water over 100°C, the dynamic ring can still be made of tungsten carbide, 1Cr13 welded cobalt-chromium tungsten or cast iron, while the static ring can be made of resin-impregnated graphite, tungsten carbide or metal ceramic.

(5) For media such as gasoline, lubricating oil and liquid hydrocarbons, under normal temperature conditions, the dynamic ring should be made of tungsten carbide or 1Cr13 welded cobalt-chromium tungsten, while the static ring can be made of resin-impregnated or tin-antimony alloy graphite or phenolic plastic.

(6) In the environment of gasoline, lubricating oil and liquid hydrocarbons at 100°C, the dynamic ring should continue to be made of tungsten carbide or 1Cr13 welded cobalt-chromium tungsten, while the static ring should be made of bronze-impregnated or resin-impregnated graphite.

(7) When the medium contains particles, tungsten carbide should be used for both the dynamic and static rings.
